Let me give a big answer to a small question.
Question: Electricity is made from oil, gas and coal. So if I charge an electric car with that electricity, how is it good for the environment?
Answer: I told you the answer will be a little long.
First, some numbers. One litre of diesel makes 3.2 kWh of electricity. Our Palki car battery is 6 kWh.
A fuel car goes 15 km on 1 litre. So the same fuel that takes a car 15 km could make 3.2 kWh of electricity. To go 150 km, that car burns 10 litres.
Our Palki car goes 150 km using 6 kWh. So to go 150 km, it uses electricity equal to about 2 litres of fuel.
You burned 8 litres less fuel. The harm to the environment is 80% less. Is that bad?
Now let me give more proof why electric is better. I worked with solar energy for a long time. I know very well — if something does not save money, or the buyer does not push you, people do not want to invest just because it is good for the environment. So let me talk about money.
In Bangladesh, 66% of electricity comes from gas, 17% from furnace oil, and the rest from coal. Less than 1% comes from renewable.
Making one unit (kWh) from gas costs about 3 taka at the plant, 4 taka at the factory. From oil it is 10 to 14 taka per unit. On average, say 7 taka per unit, without subsidy.
Palki's car has a 60 volt, 100 amp battery — about 6 units. A full charge costs 42 taka and runs 150 km. That is 28 paisa per km. Lead-acid batteries change every 12 months; LiFePO4 lasts 6 years. Counting the battery cost, lead-acid is 1.12 taka per km, lithium is 85 paisa per km.
A fuel car costs 4 to 15 taka per km. Now do you understand, sir, why electric is better?
Now let me do a little engineering. A gas power plant makes electricity at about 60 to 70% efficiency. Your fuel car is only 12 to 30% efficient. So even by this count, an electric car does about 40% less harm to the environment.
So if anyone tries to tell you something else, tell them this — and stay with Palki Motors, with love.
Oh, and our batteries will charge from solar and wind in the future. Now you will say, making solar panels also burns a lot of coal. That is another discussion. I made a full research paper on this back in 2013. The good news is, after 2016, solar panels became net carbon zero products.
